Marghanita Hughes - Author and illustrator of “Toffee” books

I was brought up in the countryside and introduced to nature at a very early age.
Having the Pentland hills on our doorstep, I have wonderful memories of countless family adventures in and around the countryside.
Both my parents were art teachers and encouraged me to be creative throughout both my childhood and as an adult.
I trained as a graphic designer in Edinburgh before moving to Perthshire with my husband David and our 3 children, David, Jasmine and Samuel.
We are fortunate to have a cottage in the beautiful Perthshire countryside where we have a herd of Highland cattle that graze nextdoor to our garden. It was watching the young calves playing,one spring, that inspired me to write about a Highland cow.
I wanted to introduce children to the Scottish countryside and wildlife (some of which is endangered), in a fun and educational way- using brightly coloured, simple illustrations and stories which children are attracted to.
My husband and I created the Toffee website so that children, parents and grandparents can find out more about Scottish animals and wildlife and have fun being creative themselves.
